Wordless Wednesday – Turtle

After all the ran came through out came the turtles. As we was headed to the store we found this little guy crossing the road. He is a Box Turtle.

How nice of you to make sure his passage was safe! sometimes I just wonder where these critters think they are going when they cross roads or highways?? Happy WW!

A Box Turtle is definitely a neat thing.

  3. Patricia says:

Box turtles have site fidelity and live in a small home territory. Because of this, you should never move them more than a few hundred feet (like helping them across the road). Studies show that when box turtles are moved to a new location, less than 30% actually survive.

Males cross the road to find mates. Females cross the road to find a place to lay her eggs. This is the busy season, so be careful when driving, especially after a rain.

    Great story!

  4. Thank you for the great information Patricia. I did not know that.
