Typical HomeSchooling Day

Whenever I take Gillian places with me during the day, I always get asked “Why are you not in school?” Of course we always respond with we are homeschoolers. At times the ones asking are interested about our daily activities.

Well, I will be honest, that is what’s so great about home schooling there is nothing set in stone on when you need to school. We are a night time family, so we do our learning in the evening hours. This works best for us.

We spend a few hours at night doing our computer school work, right now we are using Switched on School house, I have a few dislikes, but overall we love it. Once we are done with our daily work on the computer, I have Gillian do her spelling words on paper. This gives her writing practice. After she is done with her spelling, we often watch something educational on TV. She loves animals so we watch a lot of animal shows, such as River Monsters.

Gillian also loves to draw so she spends a lot of time drawing. So our basic school day is, first few hours we do our Switched on Schoolhouse work. We do take a few breaks in-between. After we have finished with the daily work we move on to our spelling and vocabulary words. I have a binder with all her new vocabulary words which she studies.

Then we do a little TV time, after-wards she draws and colors and does her thing while mom does her thing. If she comes across something she is interested in, she will Google it and read up on what she wants to know.

So there you have it that is a normal home schooling day/night in our house hold. Of course sometimes we do not want to do the computer work so we will have a break from it, and later we will spend more time on the computer doing schooling. That is what’s great about home schooling, you school at your pace, just as long as the work is done by the end of the school year.
