CommentLuv Good or Bad?

I have been thinking about ditching commentluv, I want people to come to The Neat Things in Life, because they want to not because they want to leave a spamming comment and get a backlink. I have been noticing that CommentLuv has been bringing in a lot of spammy comments.

While I like commentluv because it allows me to see the latest posts my friends, and readers have posted once they leave a comment. However, I have been noticing in my stats I am getting a lot of hits on “diet blogs with commentluv” “anxiety blogs with commentluv” “commentluv enabled blogs”.

Commentluv is not enabled on my blog for “searchers” to get them some linkage…

Example:

Search term… “diet blog commentluv”

Comment that was left on my latest post which was Raw Food Detox Cookbook Review

good blog thanks for share this info with us.
hcg platinum drops recently posted..HCG Ban

This search was out of Russia. It wasn’t until just recently when I started to notice a lot more spam being directed to my site via commentluv enabled blog searches. To be honest it’s starting to become a bigger headache then what it’s really worth. Has anyone else noticed a lot more spam coming to their sites due to the Commentluv plugin?

What are some things you do, to keep commentluv, but to reduce the spam?

  1. I am not sure if it is good or bad as I can not add it to blogspot but I had wanted to use it.

    • Commentluv was at once good, but a lot of spammers have taken it over. Makes me want to scream! Thanks for stopping by and commenting :)

  2. I use an anti-spam blocker on my blog, and that helps dwindle down some of the spamming. I like CommentLuv cause it allows me to see if the person leaving me a comment has a blog, and if they do I am able to go check out their work and leave them a comment as well!! So even though I get a bit more spam possibly it is worth it to me in the long run.

I’m totally on the fence on whether or not to use comment luv. I’d like to see more people commenting on my blog, but comment luv does seem to be abused these days. Those of my friends who are using are screening every single comment before allowing it to post. I don’t have time for that. My inner debate continues!

    • I would like people to comment because they’re interested in what I have to post, not to get a link back :) Chances are if it looks spammy it will go to the trash folder.

  4. I am new to commentluv and after reading this page am wondering if it is a good thing or bad thing?
I added it to my website recently and made a few comments on other blogs here and there but I can see how some people might use it the wrong way. Guess I will need to wait and see how it turns out in the longer run.

CommentLuv has been removed, I want people to comment because they have something to say. Not comment because they want their latest post to show. I decided after having to go through and remove all the broken links commentluv caused, just to remove it completely.

  5. I believe that it is a good thing. Why not to be? You can activate dofollow and moderate comments. Simply as that
