In Denial

I sit here trying to bury myself in work, because I don’t want to accept the fact my grandpa has passed on. About a week ago I learned that grandpa had lung cancer. When I found this out he only was expected to make it a few more weeks. Grandpa went faster then my father in law when he was given the news he had cancer.

From my understand grandpa was still talking and coherent a few days before he passed. I was unable to go see him one last time before he passed. He passed away the morning after opening day in Michigan (November 16th). I am however grateful I was able to see him when I was in Michigan before we came home. If I would have known it was going to be my last hug, and the last time I was to say I love you, I would have hugged him longer and not left so soon.

I will always remember grandpa as being that hard working loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa, great grandpa and so much more.

grandpa kelleyIt seemed as all grandpa did was work. He would get up at 4am and not get home until 10pm. Grandma and him often stayed at the lake during the Summer months. Grandpa worked road construction so they tried to stay close to were he was working. He was an avid hunter. I will never forget some of the hunting trips he would go on.

Once we went out to find grandpa, it was after he had been out for awhile, we found him walking up the street muddier then muddy. He went to sit on his chair while waiting for a deer and feel in the swamp. We couldn’t stop laughing, but grandpa was pretty mad.

Grandpa also had a thing for talking in his sleep. If you ever wanted anything you just asked him while he was sleeping, he was sure to say yes!

I remember when I was about 14 or so my mom had went to grandma and grandpas without me, and I wanted to go. They told me if I wanted to go so bad I could get on my bike and ride it out there. That is just what I did, I jumped on my bike and off I went. It was about 13 miles but I was going to show them I could. Needless to say once I got there, I was not riding back, grandpa had to put my bike in the back of his truck and take me home once I was ready to go.

I miss my grandpa so much, and I wish when I was in Michigan I would have been able to spend more time with both him and grandma.

Rest in peace grandpa. I know you will always be here in my heart. I love you!
