Swimming Pool Design Trends

Swimming pool designs have changed a lot in recent years. They’re no longer simple, rectangular shapes with concrete bottoms. Today’s pools feature unique designs and shapes with colorful tiles and custom features like built-in spas and hot tubs, swim-up bars, and cascading waterfalls.

A swimming pool is a wonderful outdoor feature that adds endless opportunities for family activities and entertaining. Because of innovative pool designs, building trends show a renewed popularity in swimming pools for homes around the country. Here are some of the hottest swimming pool design trends for 2015.

Natural Pools

With a nationwide interest in green living and water conservation, natural pools are in big demand by homeowners. They take advantage of the natural property terrain and existing landscape by fitting naturally into the backyard environment. A natural pool uses biological filters provided by a natural eco-system. There are no chemicals, chlorine or cleaners that disinfect and sterilize the water. Instead, plants, flowers and trees around the pool create their own organic filtration system.

Infinity Pools

Infinity pools create stunning visual effects of infinite space. They’re constructed with a disappearing edge that creates an illusion of the water extending beyond the pool’s edge. The infinity edge actually ends about ¼ inch below the water level. A barrier is created so pool water spills over into a catch basin, then gets pumped back into the pool. When an infinity pool is built on a cliff or slope with an ocean or lake view, the pool appears to merge into the ocean or lake in the distance creating the illusion of an endless body of water.

Exercise Pools

Exercise pools are popular, especially with homeowners who have a small back yard or live in an urban area. These pools are smaller and cheaper to build than a traditional pool, so homeowners can save money and still get the health benefits of swimming. There are two basic types of exercise pools: lap pools and exercise pools. Lap pools are long and narrow with straight edges and can be designed to fit any space requirements. Exercise pools are built with resistance jets at one end. The jets create a current that lets you swim in place without going from end to end of the pool.
