How To Beat Unpredictable Weather At It’s Own Game

stormy weather

If you live in a place where the weather is totally reliable and steady, you’re definitely one of the lucky ones! For the rest of us, the weather can be known to change in a matter of minutes. In some places, it can be sunny in the back garden and rainy in the front garden! In others, you can wake up to deep snow and fall asleep to clear roads and streets again.

Weather is one of the few things that human beings cannot control; no matter how hard we try. So, instead of trying to control it, we have to learn how to deal with it. Happily, there are a number of ways to make sure the weather never spoils your day or plans. Here are some of them.

Pack For All Types of Weather

Are you prepared for every eventuality?

  • Chance of Sun
If there is any chance it could be sunny, take suncream, sunglasses, sun hats and layers.
  • Chance of rain
If there is a chance of rain, take a sturdy umbrella for everyone. Also, pack waterproof coats and wellington boots.
  • Chance of snow
If it might snow… maybe stay home! But if you do need to go out, or are just going down the road for sledging, take waterproof items. This includes things like gloves and coats.

Will you be more exposed to the elements?

If you’re going on a camping trip, you’ll be outdoors for a significant amount of time. In this scenario, remember that you’ll be exposed to the elements far more than being at home. Packing accordingly; think layers, skin protection and the ability to keep yourself and your family dry. If there is a risk of any weather that isn’t dry, take a spare pair of clothes. It’s very difficult to get warm and dry if it’s cold out and you can’t change out of wet items. Take towels too. If you need to pack light, micro fiber towels dry quickly and don’t take up too much space.

Ability To Keep The Car Running

You might be ready for weather changes, but is your mode of transport. If you’re going in your car, keep a little kit in the back. If you decide to stay over somewhere, can you get clear the windscreen if it frosts over during the night? If the sun comes out in full force, do you have a sun reflector for your windshield? Keep your aircon and heating functions looked after and well-maintained too. There is nothing worse than the aircon dying in the middle of a 5-hour journey when it’s boiling outside!

Install A Weather App On Your Phone

You will, of course, check the weather for the day or the week before you leave home in the morning. But what about if you need to keep checking in during the day? Install a weather app onto your phone or tablet. As long as you can connect to your data or a WIFI network, you’ll be able to see an up-to-date reading. Want to know which is the most reliable? Download a few and check every few hours which best represents what is going on outside. You’ll find your winner!
