How to start a diet?

Summer is almost here and if your winter months were as bad as mine, you’re probably wondering how to drop some pounds to get ready for those swimsuits. How many of you have taken to Google to do a quick search of How to start a diet? How to lose weight quickly? Best Detox diets? Best pills to lose weight fast?

If you have you’re not alone, I to have Google searched ways to quickly lose weight, I have tried many fad diets only to regain the weight back. The thing is fad dieting and pills are not the solution for losing weight, yes fad diets and pills will help you shed some pounds, however, those pounds will come back if you don’t change your lifestyle. I will be the first to admit I love eating and I find myself to be a couch potato. Below you will find a few tips to help get yourself on the right track to lose weight in a more healthier matter and as long as you change your habits you will keep the weight off and have a happy healthier life.

Portion Control

Portion control has to be one of the most important things when it comes to our weight. Food is meant to give us energy, energy to get through the day. However, we tend to eat more when we get depressed or if something is good. We tend to try to eat foods that are quick because we’re too tired to cook or it’s cheaper. While I am a strong believer that we should never deprive ourselves of the foods we enjoy, we also have to know when to put the fork down. As long as we practice portion control we will notice the scale go down.

Move More

The more we move the more our body needs food. Do you want an extra helping of dinner? Move more throughout the day, or skip dessert. Not only will moving more drop the number on the scales, moving more will also make you physically and emotionally feel better. When we workout our body releases those happy chemicals in our brain, this making us happier not only about ourselves but about life.

Change Your Lifestyle

Yes, in order to see permanent results we have to be prepared to change the way we do things.  A one week diet might help you drop 5 pounds if you’re not willing to stick to eating better and moving more chances are you will end up gaining that weight back plus more. To me, diets are a temporary solution to a bigger problem. The key to losing weight successfully, is more fruits, more vegetables, and more movement.

While I would love to have a quick fix to losing weight, the best way is with healthy eating and moving more. My best advice for getting your life on track is slowly removing or cutting back things you consume. Drink soda, change to water. Eat dessert with every dinner, only have dessert twice a week. Small changes can show huge results.

Keep a positive attitude, if you fall back into old ways, just remember tomorrow is another day and work on getting back on track.
