Planning A Birthday For Your Grumpy Husband

A lot of men aren’t bothered about birthdays. They don’t get excited and sometimes they even forget that they have a birthday coming up. Planning a big party doesn’t always go down well, especially if he doesn’t like a lot of fuss. Don’t bother asking what he wants to do, he’ll just tell you he doesn’t mind. Of course, you want to do something special but without his input, how do you know what to plan? Don’t worry, you aren’t alone. Most partners go through this every year and often end up feeling like the day that they planned is a bit of a flop. This year will be different and you might even inspire a bit of excitement about birthdays in future years. If he isn’t going to give you any good ideas for his birthday, I suppose it’s up to us.

Gifts

Gifts are the biggest dilemma. You don’t want to get him another boring present like a pair of socks or a shirt but there isn’t much else that he would use is there? There are plenty of gifts for men who have everything, you just need to think outside the box a little bit. Don’t just focus on practical things that he will use, try to think about something that will make good memories for the both of you. Experience days are a brilliant gift because they’ll give him the opportunity to do something brand new and he’ll be sure to appreciate it a lot more than a novelty tie. If he’s an adrenaline junkie, look at driving experiences. Fulfilling that teenage fantasy of racing round a track in a super powered sports car is sure to be a winner. You could also take him on a flying experience; he’ll get the chance to pilot a plane for a while, just make sure that he isn’t scared of heights before booking this one or it will be a birthday to remember for all the wrong reasons.

For husbands that are a bit more relaxed, try a day of golfing. It might not be your cup of tea but he’s going to love it, and even if you aren’t great, he’ll be happy if you try playing with him yourself.

Most men love beer, and the craft beer scene is massive these days. There are plenty of brewery tours available and what could be more fun for him than wandering around drinking delicious beers all day on his birthday?

Buying him tickets to see his favorite team is another safe option. You could send him off with his friends or, if you feel up to it, you could go with him. Your transparent attempts at pretending to enjoy it won’t be fooling anybody but he’ll still be happy that you tried.

Party

When the evening comes, you’ll want to do something special for him but remember, your idea of a great birthday party isn’t the same as his. An extravagant party with big crowds might not be his thing. If it is then go for it. If it isn’t, think about scaling it back a bit. Husbands are easy to please so there’s no need to go overboard. When you’re putting together a guestlist keep it short. There’s no need to invite the guy from the office that he went for a drink with four years ago. Just invite a few of his closest friends and maybe a couple of yours so you don’t get bored.

If the weather is nice, having a barbecue will definitely be a hit. Just prepare some great barbecue food and you won’t end up having to do much of the cooking or hosting because men can’t resist taking over when there’s a barbecue involved.

For some people, even a small party will be too much fuss so it’s better to do something just the two of you. Splash out on his favorite restaurant and get a nice bottle of champagne. The chances are he was hoping for that instead of a big party anyway.

Let Him Plan The Day

If you don’t think that any of these ideas are going to work for your husband, let him plan the day. Wake him up on the morning of his birthday and get him to write down all of the things that he wants to do for the day. Then your job is to fulfill as many items on that list as possible. It’s a bit of a cheat but it’s one way to guarantee that he enjoys his birthday.

Hopefully, these ideas can help you make your husband’s next birthday one to remember.
