Getting Your Outdoor Living Area Ready for Summer

When the warm weather arrives, there is always the anticipation of those lovely warm evenings when you can sit outside in the garden. It can make such a difference if you have an outdoor area that is ready for you and your family to spend time out there. If you are thinking of creating an outdoor living area, or if you want to revamp your existing space, then here are a few tips to help you get it right.

Creating the Space

If you don’t currently have an area for seating, then you will need to create one. Ideally, you want it to be close to the house, so you don’t have to travel far with drinks or food. It is also best for getting access to plug sockets for lighting. Depending on what you like, the living space can be a patio area with stone slabs, or perhaps a decked area. Whichever you choose, it needs to be large enough to cater for the things you want on there such as seating, tables and perhaps the BBQ. You can try to create the space yourself or get a builder in to do it for you if you don’t feel confident.

Seating

Seating is one of the most critical parts of the area because you want to be comfortable while you are outside. The seating you choose should be large enough that you can sit comfortably and relax, small chairs are ok for the dining area if you want one. There could also be a children’s seating area with smaller chairs or even bean bags. It is important that you have cushions and bean bags that are water resistant or that can stay outside in the rain.

Shade

On those hot summer days, you will want to have some shade as you sit outside. You can do this in a few ways, you can have a parasol that you can put up and down, or you can create a canopy that stays up all the time. Both are a good way of creating shade, and they can also protect you from the odd shower that might occur. If you are buying a parasol, then you will need to ensure that it is weighted down securely so that high winds don’t blow it away. You can also attach outdoor heating like those at Hot Home Air so that if it does get a little chilly, you can still stay outside.

Lighting

You want to stay outside in those nice warm evening, so having some lighting outside is a good idea. You can get a variety of outdoor lighting now that are LED to save energy and even colored so you can add to the atmosphere. Another alternative is to use candles, so you get a more gentle and natural light.

Having an outdoor area to sit and relax is great in the summer, you can have friends round and enjoy the weather together.
