Can you believe Father’s Day is less than three weeks away? It is hard to believe 2011 is half way over. With a little over two weeks to go it is time to start searching for the best gift for our dads.

I found the perfect gift at Redenvelope. We were recently sent the Cubist Chip & Dip Set for review.

The Cubist Chip & Dip Set sells for $69.95, it measures 11” x 11” x 3 1/3”H. This set comes with a wood tray, and three glass dishes. The glass dishes are top rack dishwasher safe; the wood tray is cleaned easily, by wiping with a damp cloth. This is a very stylish serving set.

My Thoughts:

I loved this set, I love that the larger glass container is used for ice, and the smaller ones for your dips. This assures that the dips will not spoil if left sitting out for longer then you’ve intended. The wood tray is well made, and very stylish.

I think the Cubist Chip & Dip Set can be used for other things though. So, if you have a dad that really is not into entertaining, you can get him this piece for his desk. The long glass dish can be used for pencils, and pens, the smaller dishes for smaller objects.

The wood tray would also be great for loose pieces of mail or what not.

If the Chip & Dip Set doesn’t interest you; you can check out the other Unique Ideas for Father’s Day that Redenvelope carries. Some of the Best Gift Ideas for Dad, are the ones that come from our hearts.

Make sure to like Redenvelope on Facebook, they often have discounts, and great gift ideas for other occasions as well.

In my home we do not do a whole lot to celebrate Father’s Day, we usually have no money. Our daughter and I will do extra things for daddy to let him know how much we love him, but as far as going out to eat, we stay home and I make dad (my husband) his favorite foods.

Gillian will usually make dad something special with construction paper, glue and Popsicle sticks. She loves being crafty.

Some cheap ideas for giving dad a special dinner.

Fire up the grill and cook up some hamburgers. You can spruce then up by adding lipton onion soup mix in with the ground beef. This gives the burger a yummy flavor. You could also cook up some hot dogs and but some BBQ sauce on them.

My husband has a few favorite side pasta salads that I make. So I make him them as well.

Macaroni Salad (I am not much for measuring I just guess and go with taste.)

16oz wheat pasta. I do not use the full wheat
8oz cheese I prefer kraft colby jack
2 cans of Tuna fish I get the in water not the oil.
1 bag of frozen sweet peas.
Miracle Whip. You can use mayo if you want, me personally will not I am not a fan of mayo.

I cook up my pasta then when it is all done just mix everything together. I take the cheese and cut it up into small piece, and the miracle whip I add as needed. This is a big hit in my family.

Italian Salad also known as Spaghetti Salad.
This can be made pretty much however you would like to make it. My grandma showed me how to make it and she added tomatoes, celery and broccoli in hers, I make mine a bit different.

Italian Dressing this is another add as needed. I usually add the whole bottle not the small one.
Black Olives
Cucumbers
Bell Peppers.
Salad Seasoning
Italian Dressing MIX.
Penne Pasta

Again just add what you want and however much you want. Mix all together let chill and serve. This is a salad you can not mess up. Unless you put something in you do not like.

With the economy being a bit off whack I know a lot are pinching pennies to make ends meet. However, we can still make Father’s Day special for the wonderful dads in our life. All it takes is a bit of a crafty hand. What you do not have a crafty hand? Of course you do, you just don’t know it yet. :) Below you will find some great fathers day craft ideas that will not break the bank to make, and will get a smile on dads face.

Hand Print T-Shirt

One great craft idea the kids can do that will not cost a ton is making dad a t-shirt. All you need is some fabric paints which can be purchased at Wal-Mart and a plain t-shirt. You can make this a few different ways, one way is let the kids all put their hand in the the fabric paint, then touch the back of dads shirt. Then you can come up with something to put on the front. Such as, “My kids all pat me on the back.” or some sort of saying that will remind dad that he is special. The kids will have a blast making dad a special shirt as well.

Rock Paper Weight

Take the kids out on a rock hunt. Sing a silly song while hunting for the most perfect rock. Once you find this perfect rock take it in and wash all the dirt off. Once he rocks dry let the kids paint them to look pretty. Then dad can take it to work and use it as a paper weight. When dad gets to missing the kids all he will have to do is look at his paper weight and he is for sure to smile.

Handmade Fathers Day Card

Get out the scissors, construction paper, glue and extra pictures you have. Let the kids get crafty with the construction papers, and make daddy the best card ever.

One thing I have learned as being a parent, is some of the best gifts a parent can ever get are the ones their kids made themselves. I remember the first every Mothers Day card I got. My daughter was 9 months old and my husband got out the paper and the scrap-booking scissors and made me my first every mothers day card. Yes my baby girl was only 9 months old, but she loved the one on one with daddy and making something special for momma.

Now that all the Mom’s got their day, soon it will be time for the Dad’s to have their day.

I know my husband does so much for our family through out the year he deserves one day that is just about him.

Did you know there is roughly 67.8 million Fathers in the nation?

While doing some research on the History of Father’s Day I discovered that Father’s Day was first thought of by a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd. While she was sitting in on a Mother’s Day sermon in1909.

Sonora wanted a day to honor her father, her mom had died giving birth to their sixth child. Sonora’s father was then left to raise 6 children by himself, one being a newborn. Most of us moms know raising a newborn is not so easy. Some even know how hard it can be raising 6 children. Now can you imaging your husband raising all those babies by himself?

The First Father’s Day was celebrated June 19th, 1910 in Spokane, Washington. The reason for it being in June was, because Sonora’s dads birthday was in June.

1924 President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a National Father’s Day, but it was not until 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson decided to make it a holiday. He signed a presidential proclamation that declared the 3rd Sunday in June Father’s Day.

In 1972, it became law. President Richard Nixon signed it into law.

I think it is pretty amazing that it was a female that got the move going on getting dads a special day.
