Easy Tuna Casserole

I remember growing up certain foods mom would make that seemed easy enough make. I also remember when I became an adult the first time I attempted to make these same dishes, what seemed easy to mom, seemed like a chore to me.

My first attempt making this I messed it up big time. It ended up looking like a bunch of mush!!! However, over the years I have learned to make this dish into an easy dish.

Easy Tuna Casserole:

1 box pasta. (I use the mini shells, however you can use whatever you prefer)

2 cans of Tuna fish. (I use the ones in water, if you are not much into Tuna you can reduce it to 1 can)

1 bag of frozen sweet peas. (I highly recommend the frozen sweet peas, canned peas seem to make the casserole be mushy. However, if all you have is canned peas you can use 1 can of them)

1 big can of cream of mushroom soup. ( I use the big can so it is not dry.)

1 8oz bag of cheese. (Which ever kind of cheese you like. I prefer Colby Jack)

Cook pasta on as directed then drain. Now add in your tuna, frozen peas, and cream of mushroom soup. Mix well, once you have it all mixed add in your cheese. Now there is 2 different ways you can do this. I personally cook this whole meal on the stove, it helps reduce heating up the home. However, if you choose to cook in the oven only mix in half the bag of cheese, then place in a casserole dish spread the remaining cheese on top and cook in the oven on 350 for about 30 minutes. If you want to skip the oven step just mix all the cheese in, and heat up thoroughly on the stove-top.

This is a big hit for my family and we have used this for pot lucks as well.

  1. that sounds like a good recipe. I can remember that my mom made tuna helper one time when we were kids. My dad did not like it, I think that comment might have been, what is this S%#@. LOL
So, that was the first and last time she made that.
I can’t do hot tuna, it doesn’t seem right to me. lol

    • This is super yummy. We also take mac and cheese and mix tuna in with is. These are cheap meals for those one a tight budget. Gillian likes mac and cheese with tuna and peas.
