Did You Know September Is Head Lice Prevention Month!

preventing head liceWhen I think of head lice, my head starts to itch. I remember when I was a kid we always seemed to get it! Mom would try her best to prevent it, but nothing she did seemed to work. With roughly 85% of US school districts reporting at least one outbreak a year of the annoying bugs, it is time to take a stand and prevent your children from getting them.

With us being home schoolers, we never really had to worry much about them. With the move back to Michigan, and my nieces, and nephew being in the public school system, I thought it was time to take actions to protect not only my daughter, but myself! I remember the last time I had the creepy crawlers, and I didn’t find out until I went to get a hair cut, talk about not FUN! I went straight to the store, bought some hair die, and killed them fast.

With kids though we cannot put chemicals on their hair to ward off the lice. Instead we can use Fairy Tales Hair Care for Children to prevent it, and not have to worry about the headache of going through the hair and removing the eggs, and killing the mommas.

When I received the email asking if I would be interested in checking out these products I had to say YES! I do NOT want my daughter getting lice, and if I can prevent it, I will.

We received Rosemary Repel® Leave-In Conditioning Spray, Shampoo, Creme Conditioner, and the Gel. When I get products like these I like to smell them, I don’t want to send my daughter off with smelly hair. I opened the conditioner up and was amazed on the smell, it smelt really good, then I opened the shampoo and was hit with the tea tree oil smell, I was surprise that the smell was not over powering.

I new this was something I could use on my daughter’s hair to help protect her from head lice. So, next test was seeing how it worked, off to the shower we went, washed her hair with it, and all went well. I have to say I was shocked on how it made her hair, usually we are fighting with the brush, but with the spray in conditioner, it made brushing so much easier.

So far so good, no bugs have found their way to our hair, and I will also be using this on my hair, because I do not want no creepy crawlers.

Fairy Tales Hair Care not only sells product to prevent, they also have a ton of information, and if you have an iphone, you can get an app that will help you report, and track head lice in your area!

Here are a few tips from Fairy Tales to help prevent head lice.

Avoid head to head contact at school and home.
Do not share clothing, hats, scarves, sports uniforms and helmets, coats and hair accessories

Lice are usually spread thru head to head contact and less frequently by lice that crawl.
Preschool and elementary-age children, 3-11, and their families are infested most often. Girls get head lice more often than boys. In the United States, African-Americans rarely get head lice. Personal hygiene or cleanliness in the home or school has nothing to do with getting head lice.

  1. I really appreciate you sharing this, after I got head lice in 2009 when I was 8 months pregnant, I freaked out. Crying hysterically felt so dirty and disgusting. (Got it from work, patient’s daughter had it and I think when I was changing the bed linen it must have crawled on me) I did not understand lice at that time, I didn’t know that the cleaner the hair the easier to get. After treating and weeks of my husband sitting for hours with me checking my head I bought a conditioner called Organix Peppermint and Tea Tree Oil. Seemed to keep them from coming back. After I read this I am interested in trying it out for both myself and my daughter. Is this something you can use 24/7-365 days a year?

    • I am not sure if this is okay to use all the time, I know from my own experience, and reading some of the other reviews, this shampoo works! If you feel you or your daughter maybe expose to head lice I do recommend this product. The shampoo has a strong smell, but the conditioner smells so good, it covers up the shampoo smell.

  2. These are yucky.. now that school has started.. we are always checking, gets expensive to buy all the shampoo’s
