Yard Sale Tips

When it comes time for yard sales I cringe, I love shopping them, but having them myself is always a nightmare. It seems I start with a clean home, then half way in you can hardly walk! I typically don’t have many yard sales, I usually hoard everything or wait until I see someone on a local facebook group needing items and I donate them.

However, if you’re in a situation where you may need a little extra money and your home is being over crowded with stuff, chances are you want to have a yard sale to get rid of it ALL.

Here are a few tips in having a successful yard sale

Advertise

Advertising is the key, if you don’t advertise chances are you won’t get many people stopping by, this is true if you live off main roads.

Price to Sell

While you may think an item you have is worth a lot, chances are if you price it to high, it won’t move from its spot and you’ll end up lugging it back into your home. People shop yard sales to get good deals, NOT to pay store prices on items.

Bundle

Bundle items together and price that way, this will help you get rid of all your unwanted items.

Timing

Timing is everything when it comes time to have a yard sale, I have always found that if you have a yard sale right before school, if you have clothing you’ll sell those items faster. Another great time to have a yard sale is the beginning of the month and Friday’s. Why? Because the beginning of the month and Friday’s are usually payday, so people will have the money to shop shop shop.

If you want to make the most out of your time and your yard sale, be sure to sell nice clean items, no one wants to pay you to take your junk away.
