3 ways you can keep your furry friend happy

Getting a puppy is by far one of the most exciting life events that can ever happen. So much so, there are some owners who take on the role of more than one pooch and have a whole family of them! Puppies and dogs can come in all different shapes and sizes due to their breed, and this means that they require different kinds of care. Owners can use sites like Pupster Passion to find relevant information on their pooch’s care and ensure they are well looked after. There are a few tips owners can follow to ensure their furry friend is happy and comfortable.

Give them the right food

Depending on a breed and age of a dog, they will likely have specific dietary requirements. Some dogs may even have allergies or work in a particular profession and require a special diet. Feeding your dog the right food for them can certainly keep them happy and healthy. For puppies, softer food is necessary as their teeth cannot always crunch and chew as well as an adult dog. This is because their teeth are still developing, and just like humans, they will lose their first set of teeth. Ensuring they have softer foods can make it easier for them to eat their breakfast and dinner. However, this is not required for adult dogs as they have already lost their teeth and are far more robust than a pup.

There are plenty of food types available, such as kibble, wet food, or even raw foods. Kibble and wet food are often popular choices, but the raw food diet is becoming more popular. A raw food diet consists of natural, organic raw food and has been suggested to be far more nutritional for a dog than other options. However, it all depends on your dog and their preferences. Not every dog can eat raw eggs or specific protein sources either, meaning a raw food diet might not be for them. Speak to your vet if you’re considering a raw food diet to ensure your pooch can handle it.

Let them exercise

Exercise is vital for any dog, but you must ensure you exercise correctly to ensure your pet’s happiness. If you own a German Shepherd, for example, they will need ample exercise. Long walks, running and even chasing after toys is a great way to keep them fit and healthy. However, this exercise would not be suitable for short-nose dogs such as Pugs and Bulldogs. These kinds of dogs don’t require too much exercise as their bodies will not cope because of their flat nose. If you were to over exercise a dog, they could become ill. If a dog is under-exercised, they could gain weight and feel unhappy. Finding the perfect balance for your pooch will ensure they’re happy.

Keep them bathed and groomed

Most dogs groom themselves. They will use their tongues to clean themselves, and most dogs will shed their fur when they no longer need it. Although this grooming is natural, as an owner, you may need to go a step further. You can groom your pet at home, or you can take them to the groomers, depending on what they need grooming. Commonly, dogs need their nails clipped, just like we would trim our nails. If left, they can become overgrown and uncomfortable. This can make your pet unhappy and even experience pain when having to walk. Depending on your climate, too, you may also need to groom your pet’s fur. For example, if you have a Husky in a warm environment, they will likely overheat. By trimming their fur, especially under their belly or around their feet, you can help them keep cool, which will ultimately make them happier.

If you have any concerns about your pet or about keeping them happy, seek advice from your vet.
