My son isn't in school yet, but as an elementary teacher, my advice would be to get them back into the going to bed early and getting up early routine a week or two before school is back in session. Their teachers will appreciate it!

I think getting them excited with new clothes and school supplies/lunchboxes is the best way!
What helps get my kidlets back into the swing of school are these positive self-affirmation notes I put into their lunch boxes, pockets, any hiding place they will discover them! I use affirmations like, "I am a Winner!", "No one is any more or less worthy than I am". They love them and it helps their self-esteem when they are starting a new school year! Thank you for the contest!

Start in early August doing daily lesson plans at home so the kids are ready to sit still, concentrate, and learn when school starts. Helps the transition from the freedom of summer to the discipline of school
I give them carnation instant breakfasts to drink before school instead of wasting precious time cooking.

We prepare for the kids to go back to school early in the summer so that we are not in a panic the couple weeks before school starts and we then can relax and enjoy each others company!
cjnedrow at gmail.com
The start of the new school year is exciting, but sometimes getting back in the habit of going back to school can be a drag. We try linking going back to school with something they are excited about like seeing their friends or gearing up for the various back-to-school events or participating in fall sports. This way their excitement for these things will hopefully get them excited about getting to school and getting back in the groove.

Our process to get ready for going back to school was pretty standard–some new clothes and picking up required school supplies.
clynsg at yahoo.com
Be enthusiastic and let them pick out supplies that they like. They will be more excited about doing school work if the tools they have are visually appealing to them.
