How To Avoid A Headache While Traveling With Your Dog

My dog deserves a holiday because…

When it comes to our dogs, they’re just like our own kids, and we couldn’t see leaving them at home while we traveled. Our first time taking both dogs with us on a camping trip ended up being a nightmare, and I was left tending to a headache. Since then I have learned a few tricks to help making all those other trips a lot less hectic and a lot more enjoyable and I think you can benefit from these tips as well!

How to Avoid a Headache While Traveling With Your Dogs

1.) Have Treats on Hand – Treats can be a life saver, whether you use them on the way to your destination or use them once you have arrived. I have found by rewarding good behavior with our boys, they seem to behave better while traveling, because they never know when mom will pass them a yummy treat.

2.) Have Proper Gear – Dog collars for around the home are great, but when traveling harnesses are your best option. Having your dog in a harness will allow you to have better control over them when walking.

3.) Water, Water, and Water – Make sure when traveling you have access to water in your vehicle, this way you’re not having to make several stops to rehydrate your pooch. Since we love to hike with our boys, we make sure to carry plenty of water not only for them but also for ourselves.

4.) When Hiking Take Breaks – Dogs can overheat just like humans, so take breaks so your pooch can cool down and get a little shade.

5.) Have a Tie Out – Have a way to secure your dog, but also allowing him to have some room to run and play, this way your pooch will get the exercise they need, and sleep well at bedtime!
