Amazing Reasons Why I Love To Sew And Why You Should Too

I absolutely love to sew! I know that sewing gets a bad press because it is as an old woman’s hobby, but I completely disagree. There is room for sewing in the twenty-first century and here is why. And yes I might be a little biased, but you still can’t argue with the reasons below.

It’s Cost Effective

I don’t know about you, but my clothes always need altering. No matter how thorough I am before I purchase them, something pops up a couple of weeks down the line. Of course, you could always send it back, but sometimes I won’t spot the mistake until the returns policy has expired. Plus, it is always a lot of hassle to get your money back. Because I can sew, I can alter my clothes and save myself time and money in the process. All I did was buy a sewing machine for beginners, and I never looked back!

I Know Where My Clothes Were Made

I have trouble buying clothes if I am not sure how they were made. Just the thought of little children being exploited in sweatshops breaks my heart, and I will not condone it by buying their products. Normally, that would put me at a disadvantage because a lot of retailers have shady connections. But, because I can sew I can afford to keep my morals and make my clothes myself. I love the fact that I made my clothes without harming helpless kids.

My Clothes Are Unique

I also know that when I turn up to an event in clothes I made myself, there will not be anyone there wearing the same outfit. Unless I have made a few and sold them on for a small profit, my clothes are unique. The problem with high street clothes is the fact that everyone can buy them, and in a lot of cases everyone does seem to have the same dress or skirt or whatever. I know it’s a bit vain, but I hate wearing the same outfit as someone else.

I Can Pass It On To My Kids

If my children want to learn, I can easily pass it on to them when they are a little older. Not only can they benefit from sewing as I have, but it is a great way to bond and spend time together. I love the feeling when my kids and I spend time together on something that we both enjoy doing. Those times are few and far between, and they are priceless.

It Is A Great Hobby

Maybe there are better hobbies, but sewing is the one for me. It might not tire me out, and I certainly won’t work up a sweat, but I am not bothered in the slightest! If I wanted all those things from a hobby, I would take up soccer, but I love sitting in a comfy chair and sewing the night away.

I can’t tell you enough how much I love to sew and why you should try it too!

I love to sew, too! I have some trouble with arthritis now….I’m hoping to buy a little, basic sewing machine.
